Directors
The Miller
family has run Camp Moosilauke since 1938. Gordon “Port” Miller, the Director and Owner,
grew up at Moosilauke. He attended Colgate University, and received his doctorate from Columbia. He
has written a number of books in the field of decision making, including Teaching Your Child to Make
Decisions and The Little Book for Big Decisions. In the off-season, he runs his
own management consulting practice. Port’s wife Heide is the Camp's business manager.
The Managing Directors, his daughter Sabina and her husband Bill McMahon, also attended Colgate and received graduate degrees from Columbia. When they are not at Moosilauke, they live and work at The Thacher School in Ojai, CA. Bill is the Director of Admissions, and Sabina is the Dean of Students.
Staff
Our staff members are carefully selected. We have a very low turnover and most new counselors are either ex-campers or
are recommended by former counselors and parents. Although many counselors are in college, key administrative positions
are filled by professional educators, some of whom have been associated with Moosilauke as campers and counselors for more
than 20 years. Ken Miller, Port and Heide’s oldest son, is the Associate Director in charge of all staffing and the athletic programs. During the off-season, Ken lives with his wife and two sons in Colorado. He has a masters degree in teaching and is a teacher at a private school in Denver.
